Working Crew Foreman

General Job Description:

The Crew Foreman is responsible for working alone and/or working alongside the crew while supervising the construction activities of the crew and subtrades. The Crew Foreman is to communicate with the Site Supervisor on a regular basis with regards to planning and scheduling so that the projects can be completed on time, within the budget, and to quality specified.

The Crew Foreman may perform the following tasks:

  • Schedule with the Site Supervisor all manpower required at their job location
  • Oversee workers on the crew while working alongside to complete the job
  • Maintain work schedule as set forth by Project Manager
  • Keep daily logs as to time and personnel on site, deliveries, daily progress and changes in scope of work, as required
  • Attend job meetings, orientations, and safety meetings and meet with professionals as necessary
  • Review project and keep the Construction Manager informed of progress, problems, and anything that will hinder the job from being completed on time and on budget
  • Make requests to the Construction Manager for material, equipment and safety supplies
  • Hold Safety meetings with onsite personnel as required, and ensure that all safety requirements of both the Company’s and the Customer’s safety program are fulfilled
  • Ensure Hazard Assessments are completed for every job, and all accidents, incidents and near-misses are reported to the Construction and Safety managers
  • Maintain site records of visitors, accidents, delays affecting schedule, unforeseen conditions and R.F.I.’s
  • Review job site cleanliness and ensure site is cleaned daily to ensure a safe workplace and conformance with customer’s housekeeping requirements
  • Ensure quality work standards are maintained

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Practice all policies, procedures and due diligence at all times
  • Be knowledgeable in all relevant OH&S legislation
  • Ensure compliance with the Company's Health and Safety Program, provide leadership, set examples, and ensure safety minutes are created
  • Create and maintain a jobsite culture that values safety, health and cleanliness
  • Communicate site rules regarding safety procedures to new hires and enforce those rules
  • Observe all worker’s safety practices and make necessary recommendations for improvements
  • Ensure all documentation is fulfilled according to the safety audit protocol set forth and OH&S standards
  • Conduct Pre-job Hazard Assessments and tail gate meetings with all involved to ensure their understanding of all hazards/controls etc.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections of the site while work is underway and ensure regulations relating to health, safety and the environment (HSE) are adhered to
  • Review and follow up on all incidents/accidents when required to do so and forwarding all findings to the Construction Manager for comments and recommendations
  • Conduct regular inspections of all safety materials (fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eye wash station, safety signs)
  • Wear all P.P.E. required when on work site, and ensure all others are doing the same. Check PPE for any defects; any defects found must be replaced immediately.

Personal Requirements:

  • Current CSTS certification, first aid certificate, clean drivers license, and trade tickets in good standing
  • Current ACSA Certificates (Leadership for Safety Excellence & Contractor Management), can be arranged after hire if required
  • Familiarity with all general construction hand tools and power tools
  • Technical aptitude and competence in reading blueprints and specifications
  • Personal drive, initiative & resourcefulness
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information to solve problems when they arise

Measures of Performance:

The Crew Foreman shall be deemed to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have been accomplished:

  • Company standards are met for attendance and punctuality
  • Company standards are met for productivity on the site
  • Jobs begin on time with all required tools
  • All materials and labor not in original contract are documented and change orders are completed and signed off
  • All jobs are completed on schedule
  • Deficiencies are minimal (less than 1%)
  • No lost time accidents or OH&S violations, and PPEs are used appropriately
  • Company property is protected
  • Tools and equipment are restocked and other company property is neat and orderly
  • Work areas are maintained in a neat, orderly, and sanitary condition
  • A smooth working team atmosphere is maintained at all times

Estimator/Project Manager

General Job Description:

The Estimator/Project Manager requires a thorough understanding of commercial construction that will allow them to meet the following requirements:

The Estimate/Project Manager may perform the following tasks:

  • Travel to job sites to gather information on materials needed, labor requirements, and to get an understanding of the customers’ requirements, review bid requirements thoroughly
  • Read blueprints and technical documents in order to prepare ‘quantity take-offs’ of the individual components required to complete the project
  • Create bid lists that fit scope of job, ensuring that the right subs are being sourced for the project
  • Prepare and send out RFP’s to suppliers and subtrades to obtain competitive bids
  • Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors and negotiate pricing
  • Assist with the procurement of all materials required for the project and ensure material procurement costs are within allotted budgets
  • Study and understand the contract documents to ensure that all customer and regulatory agency requirements are being followed
  • Prepare scope and scheduling documents for use in the field
  • Prepare, submit and secure the required permits prior to commencing field work
  • Prepares a project timeline to show when each stage must be completed if the final deadline is to be met
  • Coordinate project kick-off with customer and BelVan project team
  • Communicate daily with the Site Supervisor to ensure that the scope, schedule and project budgets are being adhered to
  • Consult with architects, engineers and other technical workers to make sure that design intentions are met & all required professional inspections are arranged in a timely manner
  • Source and procure sub-contracts & PO’s with sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Review and approve all supplier and subtrade invoices (initial review is by the Site Supervisor)
  • Identify all scope/schedule changes and prepare change orders (utilizing the Estimator) for submission to and approval by the customer
  • Prepare subcontract and supplier change orders as required
  • Initiate (with Bookkeeping) regular progress invoices and send to customer
  • Prepare progress updates to the customer on a regular basis

Measures of Performance:

The Estimator/Project Manager shall be deemed to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have been accomplished:

  • Office work area is maintained in a neat and orderly manner
  • Projects are estimated accurately and competitively and projects are being awarded
  • Awarded projects are being completed within the time and costs identified in the estimates
  • Expected project profitability is being achieved
  • All projects are completed safely, on budget and on schedule
  • All scope changes are accounted for and approved by the customer
  • Client satisfaction is maintained

Marketing & Sales Lead

General Job Description:

The Marketing & Sales Lead will work to increase the company’s brand recognition and exposure to the target markets, as well as to pursue and follow up on potential leads in order to convert them into clients.

The Marketing & Sales Lead may perform the following tasks:

  • Gain a strong understanding of BelVan’s culture and project methodologies in order to clearly demonstrate the value we will add to a clients project
  • Research and understand the company’s target markets in order to determine effective ways of gaining exposure to those markets
  • Track, monitor and regularly report to management on the status of the companies sales funnel
  • Develop strong relationships with key customers to maintain a high level of service and client loyalty
  • Join and participate in local and regional networking groups
  • Meet with potential customers to determine and understand their needs so the company can provide them with the most value
